Edgar Allen Poe’s death was an accident. I believe that his death was caused by rabies. First it’s the most reasonable explanation. Second it is proven by medical scholars. Lastly It explains why he was in the condition he was. The Rabies is the most reasonable explanation.
The other two theories we discussed just didn’t fit to me. The drunken theory leaves out how was in different clothes and where the week he was missing went. The poll theory, explaining how he was abducted and drugged to get him to vote, (A&E Network) is too superficial to me. The rabies explains how he was delusional and that he got lost in that week and ended up in those clothes. Second is that the medical scholar found this.
This theory is proven by people trained to find and diagnose people with illnesses. If a normal untrained person said this I probably wouldn’t believe it. Since Doctor Benitez had no other information about the patient since he was in a clinical pathological conference ("Poe's Death Is Rewritten as Case of Rabbies, Not Telltale Alcohol." 226) before he diagnosed him he couldn’t be subjective. I trust the doctors that examined him because he couldn’t be bias on the topic until after he found who this was. Lastly the disease explains the condition he was in.
Edgar was in a very unstable condition. He had hydrophobic tendencies when he was found in the tavern and he was rough looking. Neilson, Poe’s cousin, immediately thought he was drunk and sent him to the hospital(Silverman 223) The rabies explain that he was delusional when traveling so he probably wondered away while on the way and that’s why he disappeared. Some might say he was abducted by the poll riggers (A&E Network) but if so he would have been seen by other people sooner. Also while he was in the hospital that explains why he had his freak out.
In conclusion Poe died of the rabies disease. The other two theories don’t fill in all the gaps in the story. This is the most reasonable explanation. Also I agree with the doctors because they are trained to diagnose these diseases. Lastly this theory doesn’t leave any details needed to find why he died.

This was written after we read some of Edgar A. Poe's poems. I didn't like it because the subject didn't interest me and I had different views from both sides of the arrgument.
